Hey, What’s Going On?

Mid-winter can sometimes feel like a lifetime. The winter blues can quickly put your spirits in the slumps, and at BPA we keep things fun by sliding a few a ice fishing trips.

Fun and games aside, the duties of maintaining a ball python collection and a glorious rat room continues. We also persist with our breeding plan by palpating females to try and predict the state of our breeder females’ cycle. In every ball breeding colony, the female breeders are doing different things at different times.

By the end of March, we have a more definitive picture with what is going on with the females. Some females are still building larger follicles, some have reabsorbed follicles, some are glowing (pre-ovulation), some are ovulating and some have even laid EGGS! This year we have clutches in the incubator earlier than last year, yet some females are still on a regular late spring early summer timing. It is time to plan to build some more rat racks for all the new 2009’s; rat pups will be in high demand. Enjoy the photo pictorial. We are looking forward to everyone’s success this year as it should be an awesome year to see some more cool combos in this exciting hobby.
